The Family Life Champion (FLC) Scheme was incepted in 2005 to support the promotion of family life in the community.  FLCs play an important role in promoting and preserving pro-family policies and practices in the community.  You and your family life programmes strengthen the family as an institution. 

 

The FLC Award turns 5 this year.  It celebrates your hard work, dedication and innovation in the noble cause of promoting and celebrating marriage, parenthood and family life. 

It is wonderful that the number of FLC programmes increased by 40% last year.  Besides regular events for families, you have also come up with unique programmes for the specific target groups, such as the ‘Happiest Grandparent & Baby’ category in Baby Singapore 2009 to promote intergenerational bonding, and the first speed dating on air (cable car) and sea (dragon boat) for singles.  As active heralds of pro-family initiatives, you are also the ideal grassroots leaders to soleminise your constituents’ marriage.  In 2009, our 40 FLC Solemnisers conducted 40% more solemnisations for residents from their own constituency than the previous year.

I congratulate all of you for doing such a fantastic job.  I hope the FLC Award will continue to inspire you and others to serve the community and play a part in bridging families, and building the larger "family" to achieve "One People, One Singapore".
