Family Life Champions (FLCs) play an important role in promoting family life in the community. Since the inception of the FLC Scheme in 2005, your family life programmes have created platforms for fellow Singaporeans to bridge, build and strengthen family ties. The FLC Award 2011 continues to recognise and honour each FLC for your commendable efforts.
I am delighted that the FLCs have been organising a wide spectrum of activities for different target audience, with the number of events more than doubled since 2005 to reach 493 in 2009-2010. Besides niche men’s programme and platforms for singles to meet and interact, you have also formed interest groups such as Grandma’s Recipes and Club Yoga to foster intergenerational bonding. In celebration of marriage in the community, many of you have collaborated on mass solemnisation and renewal of vows events. With 57 of the 84 FLCs being appointed as Solemnisers, you are also playing a larger role in the integration of the newly-weds into the community. Your annual Baby Singapore competitions have engaged families in the thousands to come forward and take part, reiterating the joy of parenthood and uniting the young and old in a single campaign. The conducive environment that you create enables families to embrace parenthood and intergenerational bonding, amidst deepened interaction with the community.
Over the past few months, I have witnessed many key milestones at your family life programmes, including the staging of the “Happi Family Game! The Musical” at the FLC Award Ceremony 2010, where you spontaneously played out roles to reinforce the family life message to stakeholders, and the mass solemnisation of couples on air (Singapore Flyer), sea (Underwater World) and land on the auspicious date of 10 October 2010. I applaud all your efforts and creativity to make the community a more vibrant place where families are celebrated!
Congratulations to all of you for the excellent job done. The Family Life initiative has grown from strength to strength over the years, and I hope the FLC Award will continue to inspire you and others to serve as active heralds of family life in your community.
